NHRMC Prizes for Monash Researchers at AMREP

The NHMRC last week announced its 20 top prizes for Excellence in Health and Medical Research, with two of the prestigious prizes awarded to Dr Trisha Peel and Dr Joanne McKenzie, both from Monash University here at AMREP.

The NHMRC prizes, presented in Canberra in mid July, recognise ‘recent outstanding performance in the health and medical research field’.

Dr Trisha Peel was recognised for her research on the prevention of infection and optimal use of antimicrobials in the operating theatre to optimise patient outcomes after surgery. Trisha is a Senior Research Fellow in Infectious Diseases at Monash University’s Central Clinical School, and also lead investigator on the world-leading NHMRC-funded Arthroplastic Surgical Antibiotic Phrophylaxis (ASAP) trial.

Dr Joanne McKenzie was awarded her prize in recognition of her work on developing and evaluating statistical methods and methodology for systematic reviews. Joanne is a Senior Research Fellow in Research Methodology at the Monash University School of Public Health & Preventative Medicine.

Congratulations to Trisha and Joanne, and their colleagues, on this well-earned recognition.
