AHW Keynote Address 2022 – Prof John Thwaites AM

The Alfred Health Week Keynote Address is a long-standing tradition on the Alfred precinct and a highlight of the Alfred Health Week events program.

On Tuesday, we were fortunate to host Professor John Thwaites AM, Chair of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute and Climateworks Centre. He delivered an insightful address about the challenges of climate change and how they impact on the health sector both here and overseas.

After John’s address, the Alfred Research Alliance publication prizes were awarded.

ALFRED RESEARCH ALLIANCE PRIZE FOR CLINICAL/PUBLIC HEALTH RESEARCH

The winner of the best publication in the Clinical/Public Health Research category was Prof Dianna Magliano OAM from Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute for her article in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology:

“Trends in the incidence of diagnosed diabetes: a multicountry analysis of aggregate data from 22 million diagnoses in high-income and middle-income settings.”

ALFRED RESEARCH ALLIANCE PRIZE FOR BASIC RESEARCH

The winner of the best publication in the Basic Research category was Dr Tin Kyaw from Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute for his paper in European Heart Journal:

“Alarmin-activated B cells accelerate murine atherosclerosis after myocardial infarction via plasma cell-immunoglobulin-dependent mechanisms.”
