At Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute researchers focus on gaining an understanding of which people are most at risk of the complications of diabetes and discovering ways to mitigate the effects of the disease.
Other groups are exploring the complex relationship between physical activity, weight regulation and the genetic and environmental underpinnings of metabolism to address the causes and complications of metabolic disorders and obesity.

Dr Anna Calkin from the Baker Institute’s Lipid Metabolism and Cardiometabolic disease lab. Her group is examining lipid levels which put individuals at increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
