Professor Allen Cheng, Victoria’s Deputy Chief Health Officer, will present a special keynote address at 12 noon on Tuesday 17 November.

Australia’s success in handling the COVID-19 pandemic has made news across the world. This special Alfred Research Alliance keynote address is your chance to hear the inside story.

Prof Allen Cheng, Victoria’s Deputy Chief Health Officer, will present a keynote address at 12 noon on Tuesday 17 November 2020, entitled Australia’s Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

Prof Cheng is an infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist who has been Victoria’s Deputy Chief Health Officer since July 2020 – throughout the state’s second wave.

Director of the Infection Prevention & Healthcare Epidemiology, Alfred Health, and Professor of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at Monash School of Public Health & Preventive Medicine, Prof Cheng has worked in metropolitan, regional & remote areas of Australia & internationally. His research interests include major infectious diseases threats, including influenza, pneumonia, antimicrobial resistance, hospital acquired infection and emerging infectious diseases.

He has been involved in several government advisory groups and early in the COVID-19 pandemic was invited to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee & several other advisory committees. As Deputy Chief Health Officer, he has extended his expertise to further support the pandemic response.

This will be a fascinating insight into the challenges and achievements of responding to this one-in-100-year event, and is a must-see for anyone involved in medical research, health care, public health, public policy and the wider community.
