Burnet Prize for Infectious Diseases Research – $250

This Prize is awarded for excellence in Infectious Diseases Research. It is judged from eligible research posters displayed during Alfred Health Week by an independent panel appointed by Burnet Institute who make their decision based on the following criteria:
. Quality of the abstract
. Scientific quality of the data presented
. Significance and potential impact of the research described
. Presentation of the work in the Poster

MPCCC Poster Prize for Cancer Research – $200

The Monash Partners Comprehensive Cancer Consortium (MPCCC) aims to integrate cancer research and service improvement by creating a culture of collaboration and innovation that transcends organisational boundaries and drives improved cancer outcomes. MPCCC encourages and rewards research that demonstrates our shared values, including:

  • Research Excellence and Innovation
  • Collaboration – Multi-organisation, multi-disciplinary
  • Patient and Community Engagement
  • Healthcare Quality and Value
  • Improvement in Cancer Outcomes

Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) Prize for Psychiatry Research – $200

The MAPrc Prize for Psychiatry Research is awarded to the poster and abstract which:

  • most effectively improves the understanding of mental illness aetiology, or
  • which best describes the development of innovative treatments for mental health conditions.

Dr Michael J Hall Memorial Prize for Respiratory Medicine – $400

The Dr Michael J Hall Memorial Prize is awarded for posters detailing research into respiratory medicine, including physiology. It will be judged by a panel of independent assessors who will award the prize based on the following criteria:

  • Abstract quality
  • Scientific quality of the presented data
  • Significance of the research for the discipline
  • Overall presentation of the research

Professor Daniel Czarny Prize for Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology – $400

The Prof Daniel Czarny Prize is awarded to the best poster detailing research into asthma, allergy and clinical immunology. The winner will be selected by a panel of independent assessors, using the following selection criteria:

  • Abstract quality
  • Scientific quality of the presented data
  • Significance of the research for the discipline
  • Overall presentation of the research

Tony Charlton Prize for Research into Cardiac Surgery – $1000

The Tony Charlton Prize is awarded to the poster which in the judges’ opinion represents the best presentation of research in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. It is judged according to the following criteria:

  • The quality of the abstract
  • The potential importance and impact of the research
  • The quality of the research detailed
  • The presentation of the poster

Noel & Imelda Foster Prize for Cardiovascular Research – $500

The Noel & Imelda Foster Prize is awarded to the poster which in the judges’ opinion represents the best presentation of cardiovascular research. To be eligible, posters must detail clinical, publich health or epidemiological research. The judges will choose the winner based on:

  • The quality of the abstract
  • The potential importance and impact of the research
  • The quality of the research detailed
  • The presentation of the poster

Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Prize for Cardiovascular Research – $250

The BHDI Prize for Cardiovascular Research is awarded to the poster which in the judges’ opinion best represents basic research in the cardiovascular field. The judges will make their decision based on:

  • The quality of the abstract
  • The potential importance and impact of the research
  • The quality of the research detailed
  • The presentation of the poster

Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Prize for Diabetes Research – $250

The BHDI Prize for Diabetes Research is awarded to the poster which in the judges’ opinion best represents basic, clinical, public health or epidemiological research in the field of diabetes. The judges will choose the winning entry based on:

  • The quality of the abstract
  • The potential importance and impact of the research
  • The quality of the research detailed
  • The presentation of the poster

Lucy Battistel Memorial Prize – Best Allied Health Researcher Prize – $250

The Lucy Battistel Memorial Prize is awarded annually to an Alfred Health Allied Health researcher whose research was carried out at any Alfred Health campus. Shortlisted nominees will be required to present in the Allied Health Research Forum during Alfred Week. The criteria for the award are:

  • Quality of the abstract
  • Likelihood of impact on clinical practice and patient outcomes

Henrietta Law Memorial Prize – Best Novice Allied Health Researcher – $250

The Henrietta Law Memorial Prize is awarded annually to an Alfred Health Allied Health researcher who is leading a research project for the first time. The research must have been carried out at a campus of Alfred Health. Shortlisted nominees will be required to present in the Allied Health Research Forum during Alfred Week. The criteria for the award are:

  • Quality of the abstract
  • Likelihood of impact on clinical practice and patient outcomes

The Alfred HealthSmart Pharmacy Prize – Best Allied Health Research into Practice – $250

The Alfred HealthSmart Pharamcy Prize is new award for an Alfred Health Allied Health Researcher whose project demonstrates sustainable improvements to evidence based practice at Alfred Health. The criteria for the award are:

  • Quality of the abstract
  • Demonstrated impact on clinical practice and patient outcomes

The Alfred Senior Medical Staff Nursing Research Award for Best Nursing Poster – $500

This Award is awarded to the nursing research poster which:

  • Exemplifies high quality, significant research
  • Receives the highest score from judges based on
    • Written abstract
    • Quality of the project / results
    • Poster presentation

The Alfred Emerging Researcher Award for a Nursing Research Poster – $250

This Award is awarded to the nursing research poster by an early career researcher which:

  • Exemplifies high quality, significant research
  • Receives the highest score from judges based on
    • Written abstract
    • Quality of the project / results
    • Poster presentation

Kathleen AB Smith Memorial Award for Best Publication (Nursing) – $250

This Award is presented for the best journal article describing original nursing research, according to the following criteria:

  • the article is accepted for publication or published in a refereed journal within the 12-month period preceding the award
  • the primary author must be a member of the Alfred Health Nursing Division staff at the time the research was undertaken
  • the paper must have potential for significant impact on advancing patient care.

Kathleen AB Smith Memorial Award for Best Early Career Researcher Publication (Nursing) – $250

This Award is presented for the best journal article describing original nursing research by an early career researcher, according to the following criteria:

  • the article is accepted for publication or published in a refereed journal within the 12-month period preceding the award
  • the primary author must be a member of the Alfred Health Nursing Division staff at the time the research was undertaken
  • the paper must have potential for significant impact on advancing patient care.

 

ALFRED RESEARCH ALLIANCE – PUBLICATION PRIZES

These prizes are awarded according to the publication data gathered each year by the Alfred Research Alliance on behalf of member organisations. No separate entry is required for these prize categories – if your research has been published during the eligibility period, it will automatically be considered for these prizes.

Alfred Research Alliance Prize for Clinical Research – $1000

The Alfred Research Alliance Research Prize for Clinical Research is awarded annually for the best journal article describing original clinical research. The award is made to the first or senior author and is based on the impact factor of the journal. The criteria for this award are as follows:

  • The quality of the abstract
  • Research must have been carried out at the Alfred Research Alliance
  • The article must represent original work
  • Reviews, editorials and case reports are not eligible.

Alfred Research Alliance Prize for Basic Research – $1000

The Alfred Research Alliance Research Prize for Basic Research is awarded annually for the best journal article describing original basic research. The award is made to the first or senior author and is based on the impact factor of the journal. The criteria for this award are as follows

  • Only basic / laboratory research projects are eligible
  • Research must have been carried out at the Alfred Research Alliance
  • The article must represent original work
  • Reviews, editorials and case reports are not eligible
